We are committed to providing exceptional standards of professional eye care and high quality affordable products, combined with friendly, personal & expert advice in a relaxed, comfortable environment.
Services
Andrew Watson graduated from Manchester University in 1987 and qualified as an Optometrist in 1988.
After working for several years in the South West with two of the large multiple opticians he finally achieved the dream of opening his own independent practice with his friend & colleague Adrian Smith in 1992.
Andrew provides general optometric services and is an enthusiastic fitter of all types of contact lenses.
Away form work he has a young family but still finds time for some sailing, skiing & the occasional round of golf or game of tennis.
As the ageing population increases, it is predicted that the number of people with age-related eye problems will rise dramatically.
You can't prevent all age-related changes to your eyes, but you can take steps to protect your vision and reduce the risk of serious eye disease in the future.
Regular eye examinations are advised so any problems can be detected early and it is normally recommended to have an eye examination every 2 years (unless advised otherwise) up to the age of 70, and annually thereafter.
We offer a comprehensive, professional eye examination for all Private and NHS patients performed by fully qualified, registered Optometrists.
During an eye examination the health of the eyes is assessed, levels of vision measured and the prescription required to correct any sight defect is produced.
All patients are given time to express any problems or concerns they might have about their eyes and after the consultation the results will be fully discussed and all advice will be carefully explained.
Spectacle lens technology is an ever-changing field but our qualified staff will advise on the most suitable lenses for every individual.
As independent opticians we use many different lens manufacturers so this enables us to consistently offer the latest products.
Modern spectacle lenses are available in a wide range of materials designed to make lenses thinner, lighter, tougher and clearer but to optimise these premium products they need to be dispensed by professional qualified opticians.
Watson & Smith employ qualified Dispensing Opticians and trained Optical Assistants to dispense spectacles.
Frame styles are constantly changing and we regularly meet with suppliers to view their latest ranges.
It is our aim to offer frames that look great but offer excellent quality and good value.
We are exclusive carriers of some ranges and we like to stock products that are not widely available.
A vital part of dispensing is the final fitting and at Watson & Smith the collection of your new spectacles will always be undertaken by a qualified Dispensing Optician or Optical Assistant.
