Located in the heart of Worcester we welcome both private and NHS patients. We retain our customers through expert advice, stocking the best designer frames as well as the finest lenses. Most of all we have a friendly relaxed approach. At Spectrum Optica we believe that there should be nothing 'routine' about an eye examination. Your eyesight matters to us and our aim is to ensure that we conduct a thorough eye test.

read more › We rely on our sight in all aspects of daily life and therefore an eye examination is essential to monitor eye health and maintain the best vision possible. We strive to provide the most thorough eye examinations using the latest technology and equipment so you, the patient, have full confidence in our findings and recommended management. Our eye examinations usually last about 40 minutes but we will advise you if you require any extra specific tests and how long these may take. We have a general routine we perform for every patient, but as we like to treat every patient as an individual, the optometrists will tailor the examination similarly, which guarantees you a thorough examination executed smoothly, keeping you as relaxed as possible.

Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. This particular 3D OCT unit captures a digital photograph of the surface of the eye at the same time and this can be cross referenced across any areas of concern. The major benefit of this state of the art machine is that it allows your optometrist to see both the back of your eye, and a three dimensional image to look beneath the surface of the regular retinal image.

This could be in the form of anything from a Kindle, an EPOS screen, laptops, mobile phones or computer monitors for the purpose of either work or leisure. People who work with electronic screens are prone to eye diseases such as Computer Vision Syndrome. This is common among people who use VDU screens at work. These screens can cause stress and issues with the eyes, and the symptoms associated are blurred vision and sore eyes.

We also carry a comprehensive range of safety spectacles, suitable for most types of industrial protection. European legislation makes it mandatory for employers to provide an examination for all VDU users. For more information please contact us and one of our team members will be delighted to come out to discuss this further with you in your workplace.

This is primarily managed with ocular lubricants, over-the-counter remedies and remedial eyelid hygiene. For patients who are not entitled to exemptions from NHS charges, we can prescribe ointments and eye drops via signed orders. We find that the majority problems leading to red eyes are not from infections, but often allergic/seasonal conjunctivitis which would not benefit from anti-biotic medication.

Research has shown that one in five school children have an undetected eye problem. As 80% of a child's learning occurs visually, many children cannot see well enough to reach their full potential or enjoy everyday childhood activities as much as they could. A child may not realise if their vision is not clear - they assume the way they see is normal. Therefore regular eye examinations are advised for all children under the age of 16 at least once a year.

Light rays from close objects such as pages of a book cannot be focused on clearly by the retina. Someone with hypermetropic eyes may find their vision is blurred when looking at objects near to them, and for vision to be clearer when looking at far away objects. Placing a plus powered (convex) lens in front of a hypermetropic eye allows the image to be moved forward allowing for correct focus on the retina.
