Services
We have been redesigning the way we work so that we can continue to look after your vision and eye health in the safest way possible.
We will contact you as soon as we have an appointment available for your needs.
If you have noticed any new flashes of light and / or floaters (little dots or cobwebs moving around in front of your eye/eyes) in the last 6 weeks, please contact your closest practice by phone straight away so that an appropriate appointment can be arranged or alternatively call 111.
The last 15 years have seen a remarkable change in the way people are living their lives and many of us are now spending in excess of six hours a day staring at either a computer screen, mobile phone or television.
Not surprisingly, this places increased stress on our eyes, which may lead to blurred vision or dry eye.
It is therefore important to ensure that you have your eyes tested every two years, or more frequently if required.
Qualified optometrists at Haine and Smith Opticians will test your eyes using modern equipment and will give you appropriate advice on what action needs to be taken.
Under 16-year olds sight tests are free under the NHS General Ophthalmic Services and if spectacles are required, they will receive a voucher towards the cost of the spectacles.
Having a sight test can seem a daunting experience as a child but you can put your mind to rest that your child will receive the care and attention they deserve from our Optometrists and practice staff alike.
Haine and Smith Opticians use many of the methods used to test adult's eyes on children but we can also use more child friendly ways if required.
10 children and young people are diagnosed each week in the UK and early diagnosis can improve the outcome.
Diagnosing a brain tumour is not easy and the initial symptoms may mimic those of less serious illnesses.
Any child or young person with symptoms that are unusual for him or her, or are persistent or unexplained, should be seen by a GP.
Please remember anyone needing urgent medical help should be taken to the nearest emergency department or dial 999.
As we get older, the flexibility of the lens inside your eye reduces, which in turn causes issues when trying to focus on close concentrated tasks such as reading a book or using a computer device.
You may be entitled to a reduced cost sight test and an optical voucher if you have a low income and are named on a valid NHS HC3 certificate for partial help with health costs.
If you are aged 16 years plus and are currently in an apprenticeship scheme you do not qualify for a free sight test or an optical voucher unless you meet the criteria above.
