Nixon & Shaw
We use only professionally qualified staff for both the eye examination and spectacle dispensing. Eye examinations are a minimum of 30 minutes, and use the latest equipment to conduct all tests needed to monitor ongoing health of your eyes, and to identify the prescription you need to give you the best possible vision. We have the latest OCT technology for diagnosing eye disease making it possible to catch common conditions such as macular degeneration and glaucoma even earlier.

Ask about booking your enhanced eye examination with OCT screening at our Devizes practice for an additional fee of 35. We are an independent opticians and can therefore supply the lenses, frames and other products that are best for you, and are not tied to certain suppliers. We know how important it is for your glasses not only to give you great vision, but to look good, and be comfortable to wear.

Your Optometrist or qualified Dispensing Opticians, will use their expertise to help you choose a frame which both suits your face, and your spectacle prescription, and any specific requirements, (eg computer use, sports, or other hobbies.)
Services
Mr Tony Nixon and Mr David Shaw founded Nixon and Shaw's three Opticians' practices in 1972, along with their wives Stephanie Nixon and Liz Shaw.
Mr Martin Bull became a partner in 2001.
He previously trained and worked at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
When Mr Nixon retired from the partnership in 2006 Mr Bull became the majority partner and has continued to run Nixon and Shaw with the same aim of providing excellence in eyecare while introducing the latest techniques and equipment.
Eye examinations are a minimum of 30 minutes.
Our Optometrists will use advanced equipment to conduct all tests needed to monitor ongoing health of your eyes, and to identify the prescription you need to give you the best possible vision.
There is also plenty of time to talk through any concerns you may have about your eyes, and for your Optometrist to talk through each stage of the examination.
We provide complete eye examinations to assess the health of both the inside of the eye including the retina and lens and the surface of the eye.
Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) devices are already in use in hospital eye departments, but are at present seldom available at your local Opticians.
We are delighted to be one of the few high street opticians to offer the OCT scan at our Devizes practice.
The OCT represents the very latest technology in eye health.
The scan is quick, painless and non-invasive and eye conditions can be instantly diagnosed with more clarity and earlier than ever before.
Until now the techniques used for detecting sight threatening conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, meant that more damage was done before diagnosis and treatment could start.
We know how important it is for your glasses not only to give you great vision, but to look good, and be comfortable to wear.
That's why at Nixon and Shaw Opticians your glasses are only dispensed by Optometrists or qualified Dispensing Opticians, who are expert in helping you choose a frame which both suits your face, and your spectacle prescription, and any specific requirements, (eg computer use, sports, or other hobbies.)
We have a wide range of frames and lenses to suit all budgets, including designer frames, and others which are equally stylish, but without the price tag.
Due to advances in the manufacture of contact lenses, almost anyone is suitable for contact lens wear, and can enjoy the freedom from wearing glasses on a daily basis.
Contact lenses are also now available for people who have a high level of astigmatism in their spectacle prescription, who may have previously been told that they cannot wear contact lenses.
As we get older we will all find we need glasses for reading.
However multifocal contact lenses can provide an alternative to varifocal or reading glasses, correcting reading vision and distance vision at the same time (or leaving distance vision unaltered if no correction is needed).

I have been going to Nixon & Shaw Melksham for many years, I have always found them excellent, the receptionists are so polite. I haven’t known Emma for very long as she has recently moved to Melksham and other areas, but she has always been very good and goes into every detail, to make you feel a valued customer. I’ve known Mr Ball for a while and when I recently had Cataract surgery at Devizes he did my eye tests, he was very thorough and spoke throughout the examination to see all was correct. A really thorough test. I will always recommend the practice.

I recommend Nixon and Shaw in Bradford-on-Avon. The eye examination with Madeline was very thorough and she took time to explain everything. The receptionist and dispensing optician were friendly and professional. I value Nixon and Shaw for their personal service.
