Services
Andy Orkney has been the practice owner and Optometrist since 1990 having qualified in 1984.
He has always considered that a patient-centred approach to optometry is essential for a successful practice.
Michele de Vaal joined the practice in 2013 bringing over twenty years experience of working in the optical industry with her.
For many years Michele was Programme Director for Ethiopia with the eye care charity, Vision Aid Overseas.
VAO operates in developing countries helping to eliminate avoidable blindness in the 670 million people worldwide who simply need a pair of spectacles just to help them see clearly.
We use the latest diagnostic equipment to examine your entire visual system and to record any changes over time.
We use both Optomap ultra-widefield imaging which allows us to see over 80% of your retina (traditional imaging techniques only record 20% of the back of the eye) and OCT technology, which allows us to see under the retinal surface.
A comprehensive eye examination can do much more than check on how well you see.
It can give valuable insight into the health of your eyes, as well as issues which affect other parts of the body.
When it comes to choosing the right lenses for your frames the choice can be overwhelming.
We believe in taking an individual appraoch whatever your lifestyle.
Whether you wear glasses all day or for specific activities such as driving, reading, watching TV or using a computer, we can recommend the best lens choice to meet your needs.
Technology has improved dramatically in recent years and there is now a wealth of amazing products on the market.
You will find that lenses are now much thinner, flatter and optically superior.
Contact lenses provide a great opportunity to have clear comfortable vision without spectacles and we fit all types of soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses.
We offer supply schemes to suit your wearing modality, whether that is full or part-time wear.
Our affordable monthly care plans include all your eye appointments as well as trials of the latest technology contact lenses and a discount on your spectacles.
It is vital to have regular check ups to make sure that your eyes are healthy and your lenses are comfortable.
We have recently invested in the latest Optomap technology, which allows us to offer our patients a more comprehensive eye examination.
While conventional imaging technologies are often able to scan about 15% of your retina at a time, with the Optomap it is possible to scan in a 200 degree arc, capturing approximately 80% of your retina in one panoramic scan.
This scan will offer an extremely comprehensive depiction of your eye that will provide a useful picture of your general eye health.
Vision Aid Overseas has ended its recycling scheme in the UK and will no longer accept used spectacles from the public, opticians, and community groups.
