Harrison Eye Care
Harrison Eye Care is an independent opticians in North Leeds which took over McNicholas Opticians in 2015 after retirement of the previous owners. We pride ourselves on our friendly one-to-one customer service and our small trustworthy team will always try to make you feel welcome and valued as patients. We believe eyesight is the most important sense we have, and at Harrison Eye Care we are passionate about caring for the health of your eyes and giving you the best vision possible.

Catherine Harrison is an optometrist who graduated professionally in 1999. Since then she has worked for a number of large high street opticians as well as smaller independent practices. This has enabled her to develop a wide range of clinical skills including diagnosis and management of ocular conditions, accurate prescriptions, contact lens fitting and dispensing skills.

Catherine has been working at the practice as resident optometrist since 2009 and is thrilled to be taking over the practice. Janet is a dispensing optician and she joined the practice in 2020.

Regular eye examinations are essential to enable us to have the best vision possible.
Early detection and diagnosis of ocular conditions will give the best possible prognosis, so it is essential that you contact your optometrist if you or your family are experiencing any problems with your eyes.
Retinal photography is an important part of the modern eye examination.
It allows the practitioner to identify retinal pathology early and is an excellent tool for monitoring ocular diseases like dry Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy.
We offer written receipts with all purchases which are accepted at repayment and insurance schemes eg Simply Health and Sovereign Health Care.
We run seasonal discounts throughout the year ranging from 25-100% discount on second pairs!

We also offer 1/2 price second pairs and sunglasses for kids throughout the year.
Please ask in store for details.
During school half terms, we run a half price discount offer for designer frames for kids and teenagers.
A great time to invest in a new designer look!
From time to time you may experience visual symptoms which are a little bit out of the ordinary and require investigation.
Catherine is happy to investigate these symptoms and give appropriate advise and referral if needed.
These symptoms can include sudden onset flashes and floaters, painful red eyes or dry gritty eyes.
If your condition is classed as urgent, it can be carried out either by telephone or face to face.
Urgent eyecare can now be charged to the NHS on most occasions and is intended to provide patients with targeted eye care.
Myopia (short-sighted) has increased significantly worldwide in the past 20 years.
If myopia is in your family then it is important to have your children checked regularly to see if they too are developing it.
Other factors have been shown to affect the risk of myopia.
These include not enough time spent outdoors and too much time doing near vision tasks like i-pads and extensive reading.
Recent studies have suggested that fitting a multifocal contact lens in children can help slow down the progression of myopia by up to 50%.
