Brian and Clyde studied together in Johannesburg and have been in practice for over 30 years.
Clyde started the practice in Potters Bar in 1998 and Brian joined in 2001.
They share the same philosophy in that they want to offer their patients the very best in eye care.
Much time and finance is invested in the practice to ensure that their patients are given a thorough and professional eye examination with the most up to date equipment available.
Brian Kobrin practices the general optometry with a particular interest in pathology screening and contact lens fitting.
Achieving optimum health of the eye and vision is of the utmost importance.
Brian sees our diabetic patients and is able to offer retinal screenings with state of the art optical coherence tomography and fundus photography which is invaluable in the early detection of glaucoma and other retinal conditions.
Regular checks of the retina and optic nerve ensure that any eye health related issues can be dealt with.
We rely on our sight in all aspects of daily life and therefore an eye examination is essential to monitor eye health and maintain the best vision possible.
We strive to provide the most thorough eye examinations using the latest technology and equipment so you, the patient, have full confidence in our findings and recommended management.
Our eye examinations usually last about 40 minutes but we will advise you if you require any extra specific tests and how long these may take.
We have a general routine we perform for every patient, but as we like to treat every patient as an individual, the optometrists will tailor the examination similarly, which guarantees you a thorough examination executed smoothly, keeping you as relaxed as possible.
When we refer to vision we tend to think of how clear we see an image.
The sense of sight is really just a small part of vision - a detailed neurological process is involved in vision.
Vision refers to the interpretation and understanding of the images that we see.
It is this understanding of the images received in the visual cortex that gives us the opportunity to react and respond to our environment.
The eyes have an active role to play in literacy.
It is very important to see clearly and have healthy eyes, however in order to read efficiently it is essential to have efficient visual skills.
Alexander Kobrin Optometrists have recently invested in a revolutionary piece of diagnostic equipment that can detect a number of key eye conditions, such as glaucoma, age related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy during a routine eye test.
This piece of equipment is called a 3D Optical Coherence Tomography System (3D OCT) and is manufactured by a world leading optical equipment manufacturer, Topcon.
Ocular Coherence Tomography is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages.
Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye.
