Services
At Croft and Graves Optometrists we believe that your eye examination should be tailored to your personal requirements.
We ensure our comprehensive service addresses your individual needs, monitoring for changes and making eye care suggestions based on your unique occupational and recreational situation.
Your eye examination begins with an informal chat about you, your lifestyle and your general eye health.
Your optometrist will then conduct some diagnostic tests to ascertain your current prescription, your eye coordination and peripheral capabilities.
Our longer appointment times allow you to make the most of our comprehensive eye exam.
We take the time to get to know you and your eyes, enabling us to deliver a personalised service that is 100% tailored to your unique vision.
With thousands of eye examinations, OCT scans and dispensed spectacles under their belts, our expert team is highly qualified to advise on your eye care and eyewear options.
Coupled with our continual training programme for every member of our team, you can be reassured that you're in safe hands.
We are proud to be the first practice in the region of Tynedale to make the substantial investment to purchase an Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanner, which means that you benefit from our vast experience of taking the images and analysing the results.
This revolutionary scanning device uses light waves to capture detailed 3D images of the layers that make up the back of your eye.
Our optometrists scrutinise the images in order to identify the earliest symptoms of common eye conditions such as age related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Cataracts are when the lens, a small transparent disc inside your eye, develops cloudy patches.
Over time these patches usually become bigger causing blurry, misty vision and eventually blindness.
When we're young, our lenses are usually like clear glass, allowing us to see through them.
As we get older, they start to become frosted, like bathroom glass, and begin to limit our vision.
Cataracts usually appear in both eyes.
Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes, caused by high blood sugar levels damaging the back of the eye (retina).
It can cause blindness if left undiagnosed and untreated.
However, it usually takes several years for diabetic retinopathy to reach a stage where it could threaten your sight.
Attend diabetic eye screening appointments - annual screening is offered by the NHS to all people with diabetes aged 12 and over to pick up and treat any problems early on.
