Steven Whittaker Optometrists was established in 2007 by Steven Whittaker, who qualified from GCU in 1982. Steven and his brother Mark have had their own practices since 1989, and in 2007 Steven took over Carnoustie and Brechin on his own. He is one of the growing number of Registered Independent Prescribing Optometrists in Scotland. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, family run business and all of our staff have been here for a number of years. We endeavor to treat all our patients with the emphasis on individual care - we'll even serve you coffee or tea while you wait for a partner or friend. We regularly send our optometrists, and support staff on training courses run by suppliers and official bodies in order to keep up to date with new thoughts and new techniques.

Our equipment is amongst some of the most sophisticated in the country as we keep bang up to date with the latest technology.

Frames have come a long way from the old days, with every top designer producing a range of ophthalmic, and sunglass frames.
We source frames from the best suppliers around, giving value for money, rather than cheap foreign frames that fall to bits.
Kids have a huge range of metal frames, with springy hinges all available free on the NHS voucher, or as spares, or sunglasses from 35 complete.
Maui Jim - the best sunglasses around these days, off the shelf or to your prescription, and new ophthalmic range now in stock too.
There is no point in having great eye care, great frames, and bodging in cheap lenses, so we do our own glazing in-house to ensure that we keep the quality that we want for our patients.
We buy the best lenses we can, and by showing loyalty and commitment to these lens suppliers we can negotiate excellent deals for the worlds best lenses, from Nikon, Hoya, and Essilor.
Single vision lenses are kept small to minimise thickness, and we can get specially made surfaced lenses to help for the slightly thicker powers.
Contact lenses have become a very popular form of visual correction, and their use is growing rapidly.
Ortho-K - Nocturnal lenses, the new revolution in contact lenses, which you wear overnight to gently reshape the cornea, and then you take them out in the morning, and can see all day.
We use advanced, computerised corneal mapping systems to accurately measure, and check your eye surfaces.
This gives far more comfortable lenses, and a very high standard of aftercare.
We also have a direct debit plan, RENEW, which covers all your eyecare, lenses, and solutions in low cost, monthly payments, with substantial savings over normal RRPs.
We all take our eyesight for granted from a very young age, and we assume that our children can see well.
However, some eye conditions are present from birth, or develop at a very young age, and to successfully correct them they have to be picked up when the child is as young as possible.
Short sighted children will struggle at school to see the blackboard, and may then fall behind educationally;.
Long sighted children may struggle to see reading material, and will not develop their literacy skills;.
