We are now in the next phase of lifting restrictions and would like to advise you that we are still able to offer our full service (NHS and private eye examinations) and are open for all eyecare, eyewear and contact lenses. We have social distancing procedures in place and follow guidance provided by NHS England. This includes appointment only visits, a sanitation station and temperature checking on arrival.

All our staff wear face masks and undertake twice weekly lateral flow tests to check for any symptoms. We have also all had our vaccine. I am pleased to say that we have consistently had a clean bill of health.
Services
From the outset they wanted to provide the highest standard of eye care in a contemporary, friendly environment for Bournemouth and the surrounding area.
Starting with just two staff members, Julian May Opticians has now grown to the point where they now require eight.
They include Mark Gosnold (Optometrist), Deb Brown (Dispensing Manager) and Harriet Harris (Dispensing Optician) - all registered and highly experienced Opticians.
Together with Julian, this ensures that there will always be a qualified staff member present to assist you six days a week.
Julian began his optical career in 1984 as a trainee Dispensing Optician.
He went back to City University in London to study Optometry in 1989, achieving a First Class Honours Degree in 1992 & passed his professional qualifying examinations the following year.
He has a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma (Cardiff University) and special interests in Contact lenses, Low Vision and has a Level 3 Diploma in Diabetic Retinopathy Screening.
Mark qualified as an Optometrist in 2007 having attained a 2:1 the previous year at Cardiff University.
There are so many spectacle lens types around these days that it's hard to know which are best for your own needs.
Fortunately, all of the team at Julian May Opticians are well trained to guide you through the spectacle lens minefield and advise you specifically.
There are lots of different spectacle lens manufacturers: Essilor, Nikon, Zeiss, Norville, Rodenstock, Kodak, Hoya and various smaller lens laboratories.
We select the best lenses from these suppliers and, in the vast majority of cases, fit them to your frames in our own on-site lab.
At Julian May Opticians, we think you should be able to choose spectacles as individual as you are.
No longer are glasses seen as a dull necessity - with the wealth of stylish, modern frames available, anyone can find a pair that they can wear with confidence.
Specialising in bespoke titanium rimless and light weight acetate frames, Lindberg spectacles were first created in Denmark by Poul-Jorn Lindberg in 1979.
The Air Titanium rimless have no screws holding the lenses in place and can be customised for each individual wearers needs.
There are two main types of contact lens: hard and soft.
Both have improved enormously over the last few years.
Many of the early problems associated with contact lenses have either been resolved or minimised which means that the vast majority of people can now successfully wear them.
Soft lenses are the most popular type because they are so comfortable.
Most people say that within a week they don't know that they are in their eyes except they can see!
Soft contact lenses aren't only available to correct long and short sight, they can now correct for astigmatism and even where you need a different correction for near and far.
