We also recommend the latest 'Freeform' and 'Smart' computer designed lenses to offer the best vision, combined with the thinnest, lightest and flattest lens forms available together with the most advanced lens coatings. Appointments can be made by phone, online, or by coming in and speaking to our reception staff who will be pleased to help you.

We go to great lengths to source the latest fashion frames from such places as Milan, Barcelona and Paris. Ocular photography is a means of recording an image of the retina and tissues at the back of the eye.
Services
With 38 and 37 years experience respectively, you can be assured whether you see David or Joy you will get a first class eye test from a very experienced practitioner.
Visual field test and intra ocular pressure measurement are first carried out by highly trained optical assistants and your comprehensive eye examination will be tailored to your personal needs.
We have the latest retinal camera to examine the retina as well as an OCT, the latest technology to scan the macula and optic nerve for the early detection and diagnosis of many eye conditions.
Modern contact lenses are so good that most people are capable of wearing them successfully.
If you are interested in contact lenses, we will first test your eyes, discuss different lens options and then conduct a trial with your preferred choice of lens.
We will teach you how to inset and remove them and provide a care kit for looking after them.
Following a trial of around one week we will then examine your eyes, see how you got on with them and decide how to proceed.
For many people contact lenses can promise freedom from the restrictions of spectacle wearing.
Retinal imaging allows us to photograph and view the back of the eye in great detail.
This is very important in checking the health of the retina, optic nerve and for detecting the signs of many diseases.
It gives us a permanent record of your retina and is an excellent method for monitoring any changes there.
Once the image is captured it can be digitally enhanced to further a more detailed examination of your eye.
At Maltings Eyecare, we have invested in a macular pigment screener (MPS II) that can quickly identify those most at risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
AMD damages the macula, and as the disease progresses it blurs the patient's central vision, meaning that the sufferer can no longer see people's faces.
The most common form is dry AMD where the light-sensitive cells in the macula slowly break down.
Untreated dry AMD can progress into wet AMD, which is caused by the abnormal growth of blood vessels under the macula, leading to rapid loss of central vision.
Using near infra red light the i-vue scans at 26,000 times per second to give the most detailed view of the 3D structure of the retina, optic nerve and cornea.
We are able to examine the eye in more detail than ever before, this enables us to detect early signs of eye disease such as glaucoma and refer for treatment before any damaging sight loss occurs.
We can also differentiate between different conditions and decide when an urgent referral to an ophthalmologist is advisable.
